THE Osun House of Assembly has charged the state Ministry of Agriculture and related agencies to work assiduously to improve agriculture and boost revenue in the state.
Mr Saheed Fatunmise, Chairman, House Committee on Finance and Appropriation, gave the charge on the third day of the 2024 budget presentation and defence by MDAs in the state, on Wednesday in Osogbo.
Fatunmise, who chaired the Assembly’s Joint Committees on budget presentation and defence, said the Osun 2024 budget christened “Budget of Reconstruction and Recovery” made it expedient for all MDAs to collectively work hard to revive the state’s economy.
He said that agriculture was one of the revenue generating sectors in Osun and it was the resolve of the governor to revive, promote and develop the sector.
The chairman of the committee therefore tasked the state Commissioner of Agriculture, Mr Gbola Faseru to work and ensure that agriculture was returned to its pride of place as revenue earner for the state.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that among MDAs that appeared before the committee to defended their 2024 budgets were: the Ministry of Agriculture, Osun State Agricultural Development Corporation (OSSADEC), Osun State Agricultural Development Programme (OSSADEP).
Others are the Ministry of Information and Public Enlightenment, Osun State Broadcasting Corporation (OSBC)- Radio/TV, Ministry of Lands and Physical Planning, Office of the Surveyor-General.
Similarly, Osun State Property Development Corporation, Osun State Capital Territory Development Authority and Osun Assets Management Agency, all appeared before the assembly for their budget defence.
Gov. Ademola Adeleke of Osun had presented a 2024 proposed budget of N273 billion (N273,908,997,410) on Nov. 9 to the state assembly for consideration, ratification and approval (NAN)
