WITH the growing calls for Odion Ighalo and John Obi Mikel, Super Eagles players, to be listed as overage members of the Dream Team VI squad for the Rio 2016 Men’s football Tournament, Austin Eguavoen, former U-23 coach, suggested that Ighalo and Mikel be invited to the team as two of three overage players.

Eguavoen made a case for Ighalo as a match winner because of his style of player. But Samson Siasia, coach of the team, has stated that the overage slots will only be used for positions where they’d be relevant. However, though Siasia claims he appreciates the opinions on the matter he insists the decision to pick overage players will be tactical and be based on the needs of the team.

Siasia had on April 17, said he had picked his three over aged players for Rio 2016, while hoping to claim the men’s football event. He insisted that he will announce their names at the appropriate time while expressing optimism over his side’s chances of progressing to the knock out phase.

“I already have in mind the three over aged players that I intend using at the Games. But I will not disclose their names for now as I think it’s still too early to do so. “My target in Rio is to pick the gold medal having won the silver medal in Beijing in 2008, so when I get back to Nigeria, I will put heads together with my assistants to work out our preparations for the Games.”
