Gov. Nyesom Wike of Rivers on Tuesday approved the reopening of all public and private nursery and primary schools in the state, with effect from Nov. 23.

Mr Chidi Adiele, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, announced the reopening of the schools in a statement in Port Harcourt.

“This is to inform the public that Gov. Wike has approved the reopening of all public and private nursery and primary schools in the state with effect from Monday, Nov. 23.

“The reopening is for the first term 2020/2021 academic session, in line with the school calendar published by the ministry in August 2020.

He said the schools had been closed since March due to the outbreak of COVID-19 in the state. “By this announcement, all headteachers, proprietors, and other concerned persons should take all necessary steps to ensure safe and hitch-free resumption.

“The resumption shall be in line with the extant COVID-19 protocols. Parents and guardians and the general public should please take note of the announcement,’’ he said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that the state government had on Oct. 5 reopened tertiary institutions, secondary and vocational schools in the state. (NAN)
