GANIYU Johnson, Lagos State commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, has solicited for the patience, understanding and co-operation of motorists and all road users in view of the inconveniences caused by the various road construction work embarked upon by the State government in different part of the state.
The commissioner made the appeal recently while reviewing the extent of work on some of the projects, which include but not limited to the Ajah and Abule-Egba flyovers, Freedom road, Epe network of roads, Ishefun road and Ojodu Berger pedestrian bridge among others, promising that the government is doing everything possible to ensure early completion.
He assured Lagosians that the State Government is mindful of the fact that road construction usually affects smooth flow of traffic, and as such designed and implemented effective traffic management strategies which include the deployment of adequate traffic personnel to ameliorate the hardship that may occur during the construction period.
This, he noted, is in addition to the provision of access roads where necessary to complement traffic management throughout the period of construction to ease traffic congestion and gridlock.
The Commissioner informed that as part of traffic management strategies during the period of construction of the Abule-Egba flyover, alternative routes have been provided such that motorists going from Ikeja axis towards Abeokuta can make use of Ogundele street, Ajiboye Crescent through old Otta road to Shoretire through Oguntade and Olagoke streets to Ogundele street.
While Ikeja bound motorists from Sango should use the Pipeline road already rehabilitated as well as Old Abeokuta road to charity by Oko-Oba to Agbe road to link Lagos-Abeokuta expressway through Abiodun Onitiri street, Jibowu Estate road, Beckley Estate road, Edun Alaran road, Ahmadiyyah.
He continued that motorists can also go through Risikat Majoro Street before Pipeline road through Olawale Cole and Pipeline road to link Ekoro road, or from Risikat Majoro Street to Walter Andem Street to Dosunmu Street to link Ekoro road.
He added that LASTMA personnel are on ground to direct traffic and show the alternative routes to road users in the area.
Similarly, Johnson implored members of the public to drive cautiously as they approach Ojodu Berger axis as the construction of the centre column for the pedestrian bridge is already on-going, adding that the State Government regrets any inconvenience.
He, however, appealed for caution and co-operation from all road users by obeying all traffic regulations in order to ensure traffic flow during the construction period, saying all relevant traffic agencies have been directed to ensure free flow of traffic in affected areas.
