Russia lifts all remaining coronavirus restrictions
Foreign
RUSSIA on Friday lifted all of the remaining restrictions which were intended to slow the spread of the coronavirus.
The consumer protection agency Rospotrebnadzor made the announcement, according to a report by state news agency, Interfax.
According to the agency, measures such as the obligation to wear masks and the night ban for restaurants have now been suspended nationwide.
It, however, said if the situation worsens again, the measures could be implemented again.
In many Russian regions, restrictions had already been lifted in spring, including in the capital Moscow, where passengers on public transport had not been required to wear a face mask for weeks.
According to official estimates, at least 380,000 people died in Russia due to COVID-19 since the beginning of the pandemic.
However, statistical authority Rosstat spoke of almost 560,000 COVID -related deaths in a statement from the end of April.
According to other estimates, more than one million people in the country of over 144 million have died. (dpa/NAN)
