Russian ex-politician says partisan movement planted Moscow car bomb

A former Russian politician has said that a hitherto unknown partisan movement was behind the fatal attack on Russian right-wing political activist and journalist Darya Dugin.

In a video published on YouTube late Sunday, Ilya Ponomarev, who is now living in Ukraine, said that the attack opened a new page of Russian resistance against Putinism.

“ A new page – but it won’t be the last.’’

According to Ponomarev, the National Republican Army movement is responsible for the attack that killed the daughter of right-wing nationalist ideologue and Putin ally Alexander Dugin.

It was not possible to verify the existence of the National Republican Army.

Ponomarev said that some commentators on social media raised doubts that an improvised opposition movement could have carried out such a sophisticated attack.

According to Ponomarev, the Russian partisan movement has already carried out a series of attacks in recent months, including small-scale arson attacks on official buildings.

The 47-year-old hinted at further attacks in the coming months, including against members of the Russian government and security forces.

Dugina was a fierce supporter of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

The 29-year-old was killed by a car bomb outside Moscow late Saturday.

Russian state media accused Ukraine of the attack without, however, offering any evidence.

Ukraine has rejected the allegations. (dpa/NAN)
