Women
DR. Okai Aku, Executive Director, Planned Parenthood Federation of Nigeria (PPFN), on Tuesday said safe motherhood was antidote to the onslaughts of maternal and neonatal mortalities.
Aku said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja.
He explained that the physical and medical wellness of mothers were paramount to ending deaths of mother and child during birth.
“Mothers should ensure that they are healthy as well having good and quality nutrition during pregnancy.
“They must always go for antenatals during pregnancy with routine checks of the baby’s status,” he said.
The Medical Practitioner who reiterated the imperatives of ending maternal mortality in Nigeria, said proximity of health facilities were critical in achieving low prevalence rate in maternal mortality.
Okai called on government to provide accessible roads for easy transportation to health facilities.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that there is high prevalence of maternal mortality in the Northern part of Nigeria especially in the rural areas. (NAN)
