A 30-year-old sales representative, Joshua Ayodeji, who allegedly stole his employer’s N2.9 million, on Thursday, appeared before an Ejigbo Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.

Ayodeji, whose residential address was not provided, is standing trial on a count charge of stealing, preferred against him by the police.

The Prosecutor, ASP Benedict Aigbokhan, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on June 3, 2022, at 1.00 p.m., at No. 19, Kajola St., Ejigbo, Lagos.

He said that the defendant stole a cash sum of N2.9 million, belonging to the complainant, one Mrs Funmilayo Akano.

The prosecutor said that the defendant did not remit the said money to the employer’s account, as he was instructed.

According to him, the offence contravenes Section 287(1)(a) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Magistrate K.A. Ariyo granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500,000, with two sureties in like sum.

She said that the sureties must be gainfully employed and show evidence of tax payments to Lagos Government.

Ariyo also said that one of the sureties must be a blood relative of the defendant.

She, thereafter, adjourned the case till Feb. 3 for mention. (NAN)
