Sales representative faces N26m theft, forgery charge

A 49-year-old sales representative, Okechukwu Nwosu, was on Monday arraigned before an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court Lagos, for alleged forgery and theft of N26 million.

Nwosu, is facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, forgery and stealing, as preferred against him by the police.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Cyriacus Osuji, told the court that the defendant and others at large committed the offences sometime in February 2022 and Jan. 26, 2024, at Idumota, Lagos Island.

Osuji said the defendant forged the stamp and receipt of his employer’s company, Embassy Pharmaceutical, which he used to steal the sum of N26 million.

According to the prosecutor, the offences contravened Sections 287, 365 (3) and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Magistrate Oluwatosi Erinle granted the defendant bail in the sum of two million naira with two sureties in like sum.

Erinle ordered that one of the sureties should be a blood relation to the defendant and be gainfully employed.

She also ordered that the sureties should show evidence of six months bank statement.

Erinle adjourned the case until July 30 for mention. (NAN)
