Sanwo-Olu applauds MTN Foundation for 20 years of operation

LAGOS State Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu has applauded MTN Foundation  for two  decades of commitment to the Nigerian people and impact on million of Nigerians.

Sanwo-Olu made the commendation at the MTN Foundation’s 20th Anniversary Dinner in Lagos on Thursday night.

The governor said that MTN Foundation was  a beacon of positive change since its inception.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the governor was represented by the state Commissioner of  Commerce, Cooperatives, Trade and Investment, Mrs Folashade Ambrose-Medebe.

He said that the MTN  Foundation had embraced the vision to uplift communities, improve access to healthcare services and education as well as empower Nigerians with digital skills.

According to him, the anniversary celebration was not only for the foundation’s accomplishments but also for its transformation.

Sanwo-Olu said that the foundation had shown dedication  to ensuring  that sustainable growth reached every corner of Nigeria  through critical investment in education, healthcare and youth empowerment.

”In Lagos State, we have seen, firsthand, the impact of the foundation’s initiatives over the years. They align with our goals in transforming healthcare system, boosting education and fostering digital literacy.

”The foundation’s investment in a 100 per cent science laboratory and various scholarships as well as its support for maternal and child healthcare are commendable.

“We applaud MTN Foundation. As we look ahead,  let us continue to strengthen the partnership and expand our efforts.

“The future of Nigeria  depends on such a collective action.

The Executive Director of MTN Foundation, Mrs Odunayo Sanya, said that  it had  impacted  more than 3,000 communities, given over 14,000 scholarships,  revived no fewer than 200 primary healthcare centres,  dug 213 boreholes across communities, and empowered more than 15,000 women in Nigeria.

“We are deeply grateful to all our stakeholders and partners who have joined us in this 20-year journey.

”This dinner is a celebration of what we have  achieved together and a look forward  to impactful investments in our communities,” she said.

In his remarks, the Oniró of Ötu Community in Itesiwaju, Oyo State, Oba Oyetunde Adepoju, said that revitalisation of healthcare centres had reduced maternal and child mortality.

He said that provision of boreholes had given communities access to clean  water.

Adepoju praised  MTN Foundation  for impacting lives. (NAN)
