Sanwo-Olu underscores importance of sports to development

GOV. Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has reiterated his administration’s commitment to sports development.
The governor spoke at the dinner and awards night of the 10th Nigerian-British Golf Tournament on Friday at the Ikeja Golf Club in Lagos.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the tournament, sponsored by Greenwich Merchant Bank, among others, had in attendance 19 clubs comprising of four players each.
Gov. Sanwo-Olu, represented by the Commissioner for Commerce, Cooperatives, to Trade and Investment, MCCTI, Mrs Folashade Ambrose-Medebem, commended the trade facilitations between Nigeria and the United Kingdom.
The governor noted that the Chambers had demonstrated unwavering dedication to fostering goodwill and economic corporation between the two nations.
He said that the sports event exemplified the bond and commitment to collaboration between both countries.
The governor added that the NBCC tournament was a good example of the Chamber’s role in galvanising friendship and genuine relationship among the partners.
“It is a great pleasure to witness the 10th edition of Nigerian-British Golf Tournament; the tournament represents much more than sporting event.
“We come together to celebrate the champions of today’s tournament and also the strength of partnerships that has thrived for over 46 years.
“The Chamber’s impressive membership of over 400 diverse enterprise highlights the depth and breadth of the Nigerian-British alliance.
“These are what drive economic growth, create jobs and empower citizens to thrive in a dynamic global market-place,” he said.
Sanwo-Olu stated that the state valued sporting partnerships in its continue journey towards global competitive activities.
He further stressed the importance of the partnership that encourages international investments.
He revealed the readiness of his administration to support business growth and nurture innovations in infrastructure, education, digital transformations and ease of doing business.
Mr Ray Atelly, President of the NBCC, said that the organisation remained committed to the opportunities of the sporting competition.
He urged those interested in golf to look for mentors for them to catch up and understand the importance of the sports.
He said that the Chamber was determined to provide sporting opportunities for business leaders to engage in sports.
NAN reports that Alhaji Abubakar won the Nearest to the Pin Male; Jide Oseni, Longest drive-male and Lady Lindsay Obieze, the Longest drive female.
In the corporate winners category, Yoke Solutions emerged winner with 116 points, while ADL Solutions emerged second with 109 points.
Dormai Sign Ltd. with 105 points came third while Project Ltd came fourth.
Gbenga Ayodele with 11 Handicap won the male category with 35 points. (NAN)
