Sanwo-Olu urges more media coverage of government activities

GOV. Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos has called on the mass media to give more attention to coverage of government activities to increase public awareness and understanding of government actions.

Sanwo-Olu made the call at a courtesy visit to him by members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Lagos State Council, led by the Chairman,  Mr Adeleye Ajayi.

The event took place at Alausa, Ikeja, on Tuesday.

Sanwo-Olu was represented by his Deputy,  Dr Obafemi Hamzat.

According to him, more youths and other citizens need to  know more about  programmes/initiatives being undertaken by  governments.

He said that the initiatives were aimed to impact the lives of the citizens.

The governor listed initiatives undertaken  by his administration to include  skill acquisition programmes and trainings on farming.

“Aside the Ounjè Eko Discount Market initiative to alleviate the impact of rising food prices, we have the Ilere Eko, Farmers programmes, among others.

“The media should showcase these initiatives to the youth so that they plug into it and  the various opportunities to better their lives,” he said.

In his remarks, Ajayi commended the governor for achievements in the last five years, particularly in traffic management, healthcare delivery, education and security.

The NUJ chairman expressed satisfaction at the governor’s Themes Plus Agenda and the successful implementation, including the inauguration of the Red and Blue rail lines, high-capacity ferries and new jetties.

He also praised the governor’s efforts in environmental regeneration, education technology, and social inclusion.

Ajayi sought the support of Lagos State Government for the  NUJ council.

“We also request for inclusion of NUJ members in the housing scheme of the state government,” he said.

“Together, we are going to accomplish more for the betterment of lives of the people of Lagos State.” (NAN)
