Mr Solomon Bonu, Special Adviser to Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Tourism, Arts and Culture, has urged Nigerians in the Diaspora to visit Lagos State for investment purposes.
Bonu made the call during an online tourism and entertainment stakeholders meeting organised by the Lagos State Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture on Wednesday.
The theme of the meeting was: “Post COVID-19 Sustainable Recovery: Pathway for Tourism Arts and Culture.”
He said the state was ready to engage interested investors in public-private partnership deals to reposition the tourism industry.
Bonu said that the state would build tourism and hospitality outfits to be managed by private investors.
He called on interested investors willing to groom its tourism potential to indicate interest, adding that government was willing to partner them.
” We want investors from Nigerians in the Diaspora to indicate interest in grooming our tourism potential.
” We have a whole lot of conducive places to site hotels and other hospitality outfits and the environment is business friendly enough for any investor.
” The governor is willing to partner with both local and international investors to position tourism in Lagos State at an enviable height.
” We need investors in Badagry with its beautiful coastal area and rich slave history, a lot needs to be invested in the state,” he said
Mrs Uzamat Akinbile-Yusuf, Lagos State Commissioner for Tourism Arts and Culture, said that the state was ready to engage with Nigerians in the Diaspora that would be willing to invest in the sector.
Akinbile-Yusuf said that the ministry was planning to host a programme tagged “Eko Reunion” to reunite Nigerians in the Diaspora and showcase the state’s investment potential before the outbreak of coronavirus.
She said the nation’s negative impression must be corrected and the positive stories of the state and Nigeria, as a whole, must be relayed to woo investors.
” There are lots of areas to invest in, the state do not have a convention centre, we need this, this is an aspect to invest in.
” We want our people in Diaspora to come and add value to the state,” she said. (NAN)
