THE Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, on Sunday, in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, elevated the Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki, to the position of Waziri Garin of Ilorin, which is the traditional Prime Minister of the emirate.

With this development, Saraki, who is also Turakin Ilorin, becomes the fourth Waziri Garin.

He succeeded his father, the late Olusola, who held the title until his death in 2012.

Sulu-Gambari, who is also the Chairman, Kwara State Traditional Council, decorated Saraki with the regalia of his new title and ordered him to wear it throughout the day.

He performed the conferment after a special prayer he organised for Saraki’s recent victory at the Supreme Court over allegations of false asset declaration preferred against him by the Federal Government.

The Emir said the conferment was in acknowledgement of Saraki’s passion for the development of the emirate in particular and Kwara State in general.

Sulu-Gambari further said the conferment was because of Saraki’s political exploits, which the monarch said had brought fame to the state, particularly the Ilorin Emirate.

He said, “We are excited by your political exploits because, of late, you have become the beautiful bride whom politicians across the board are beckoning to be in their camps. This is a show of recognition of your worth and achievements as a politician. We are very proud of you.”

Saraki, in his response, said his elevation took him by surprise.

He said he only went to the palace for the special prayers not knowing that he would be elevated.

He promised to use the title to continue in his avowed commitment for the uplift of the emirate and the entire Kwara State. – Punch
