Judiciary
A Grade I Area Court, Karu, Abuja, on Friday sentenced an 18-year-old scavenger, Jamilu Ibrahim, to six months imprisonment for receiving stolen cell phone.
Ibrahim, who resides in Kugbo, Abuja, pleaded guilty to receiving stolen property and begged for leniency.
The Judge, Inuwa Maiwada, however, gave the convict an option of N15,000 fine and in addition to pay N11,000 as compensation.
Maiwada also admonished the convict to participate in serious religious activities for the transformation of his character.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Ayotunde Adeyanju told the court that a case of stolen cell phone, valued at N11,000 against one Manir Abdullahi was reported at the Karu Police Station on Jan. 27.
Adeyanju added that during police investigation, it was revealed that the suspect handed the said stolen phone to the convict, who later sold the phone to a buyer for N4,000.
According to Adeyanju, all efforts to recover the stolen phone proved abortive.
The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of Section 317 of the Penal Code. (NAN)
