Scavenger docked for allegedly attacking, inflicting injury on businessman

A scavenger, Sani Zubairu, was on Thursday docked in  a Chief Magistrates’ Court in Gwagwalada , FCT for allegedly attacking and inflicting injuries on a businessman with a knife.

The police charged Zubairu with four counts of criminal conspiracy, trespass, extortion and assault.

The Prosecution Counsel, Mr Abdahi Tanko told the court that the matter was reported at the Gwagwalada Police Station on Dec. 31, 2022 by Mr Anthony Ngene of No.11 Felende Street Gwagwalada.

Tanko said that the defendant and four others, at large criminally conspired with the complainant’s sales representative, also at large .

He said that they attacked the complainant with knives and a scissors, inflicting injuries on his right hand.

The prosecutor said the defendant stole his Techno Spark V cell phone worth N50,000.

He said that during investigation, the defendant confessed to have used a knife on the complainant.

The prosecutor said that the offence contravened the provisions of sections 97, 342, 292 and 265 of the Penal Code.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Defence Counsel, Mr Julius Angbashin, in an oral bail application prayed the court to grant his client to bail in the most liberal terms.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Munir Sani, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum, whom must reside within the jurisdiction of the court.

Sani ordered that the first surety must provide his/her statement of account while the second defendant must provide his/her National Identity Card or driver’s licence.

He adjourned the case until June 21 for hearing. (NAN)
