Search for Great Teachers begins as Prof. Kila lists criteria

ANTHONY Kila, a Jean Monnet professor of Strategy and Development and director, the Centre for International Advanced and Professional Studies, CIAPS, has opined that there is no great idea, great project or great society that has become great without the influence of a teacher.
Kila, in an exclusive interview with Realnews Magazine Online at the weekend, on the CIAPS Great Teachers Week Project, noted that the initiative which is aimed at “recognizing and rewarding teachers as well, reconnecting old students with their past school and teachers” targets 50 teachers from across the world.
“In celebrating our teachers, we are appreciating part of the source of our present achievements and investing in our future collective greatness,” he said.
On the selection process for the great teacher who could be either retired or still on active duty, Kila noted that the nomination of the awardees is not exclusive to any level of education but will be based on “how inspiring they have been described by those nominating them” and the vote they pull from people and a panel of experts.
He further disclosed to Realnews Magazine that CIAPS based on goodwill of some individual philanthropists is keeping the initiative, which, he said, has been receiving calls for more people to be recognized and rewarded. He, however, noted that the future of the project will be largely determined by “the response we get.”
“We hope the project brings the importance of education and teachers to the mind of adults and we hope it inspires teachers to do more,” he said.
Realnews reports that CIAPS is a Lagos-based innovative academic and research institution offering a unique international, educational and professional experience.
