THE United Kingdom chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has charged the international community to be mindful of its interference and utterances on Nigeria`s domestic affairs.
The chapter in a statement signed by its spokesman, Mr Jacob Ogunseye on Wednesday in Abuja, said the development was worrisome because some international communities were not well informed on events in Nigeria.
The statement was in response to a viral video from the British House of Commons where some Members of Parliament (MP) criticised the Nigerian Government.
“It was wrong for anyone or MP to rely on unverified fake news for judgement and pronouncements as such can be counter-productive,” the statement quoted Mr Ade Omole, the chapter`s leader as saying.
He noted that the fake news which was attributed to the cattle herders in Nigeria had been retracted by the online medium that published it with apology to Nigerians for misinformation.
He, however, stressed that it was regrettable that many Nigerians had lost their lives and properties following insecurity and farmers and herdsmen crisis, adding that the Federal Government was doing everything possible to address the situation.
Omole described President Muhammadu Buhari as;“an exceptional superintendent“ sent to rescue Nigeria, saying that killings in part of the country especially in the Northern part of the country, were political.
He expressed optimism that the Federal Government would soon get to the root of the country’s security challenges and the herdsmen killings and bring those involved to justice.
This, he added was especially so as perpetrators of the heinous act were being brought to book through several arrests by security agents.
“The president’s gesture of promptly visiting Plateau State during the last week incident has shown that he is a great leader who will not allow criminal elements within the polity to overrun the country.
“His condolence visit to the government of Plateau and the people of the state over the unfortunate incidence showed that President Buhari is far beyond religious and ethnic jingoism as some would make us believe.
“It will be very callous for anyone to turn the killings of several scores of people to political gain as the opposition has posited.
“As for us, we saw it as satanic and evil, but we are confident that with the present rejuvenated security architecture, the killings in the country will soon become history,” he said.
According to Omole, the perpetrators of the killings have lost out in their political calculations.
He restated the commitment of the APC UK chapter to the care of Nigerians at home, saying that; “we are in it together“.
He condoled with the families and loved ones of citizens murdered recently in Plateau state and other parts of the country.
Omole applauded security agents for arrests made so far and President Buhari for his firm commitment to put an end to the situation.
He, however, said that there was need to intensify the hunt for the perpetrators of the heinous crime and their sponsors.
He further praised Nigerians for their support for the President Buhari-led government, saying that they were the heroes.
He noted that the unprecedented support for the present administration currently enjoyed from Nigerians, could not have been possible if not for the life that had been breathed to the system.
This, Omole noted was through huge infrastructural development and systemic institutional building by the Federal Government.
“Nigerians should believe in the administration, presently, Boko Haram has been seriously decimated and very soon, herdsmen clashes will follow suit.
“The atmosphere will be conducive for more massive investment and our country will regain her position within the comity of nations, “the statement quoted Omole as saying. (NAN)
