A security expert, Mr. Tony Nwafor has urged hoteliers to provide adequate security around their hotels to protect their customers and investors.

Nwafor told the News Agency of Nigeria on Tuesday in Enugu that violent crimes, civil unrest, kidnapping for ransom, and terrorism were enemies of hospitality business in the country.

He said that there was a need for operators of the hospitality industry to adopt means to counter security risks to guarantee its sustainability in the country.

According to him, God has given humanity some level of intelligence on how to tackle insecurity around our businesses and homes.

“Internal security such as mounting of cameras, CCTV around your business premises to monitor what is going on has now become imperative.

“Let us use what happened in America in 2011 to protect the hospitality sector.

“Security consciousness among members of the staff is also required,’’ Nwafor advised.

The security expert also urged the government at all levels to ensure maximum protection of the sector, saying it was their responsibility to do so.

“This is the place where people come to relax which needs to be protected against any form of attack.

“At times, the owners of the hotels spend a lot of money on other things, without minding the security around the hotels.

“And for us to have peace and safe business engagement in the hospitality sector, we should report any security breach and threat to the authorities concerned,’’ he said. (NAN)
