Security guard docked for allegedly stealing gallon of groundnut oil, rug

A 22-year-old security guard, Victor Kanee, 22, was on Thursday arraigned before a Lugbe Grade I Area Court, Abuja, for allegedly stealing a gallon of ground oil worth N 25,000.

Kanee, who lives in Iddo area of Abuja, is charged with theft.

He was also alleged to have stolen an old rug belonging to an eatery in Lugbe.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge, saying, he only stole the old carpet to decorate his house.

The prosecuting counsel, Mr E. A. Nnamani, earlier told the court that the defendant on March 31 stole a gallon of groundnut oil valued at N 25, 000 and an old carpet belonging to the eatery.

The prosecutor said that the offence contravened the provisions of sections 287 of the penal code.

The Judge, Malam Aliyu Kagarko, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N 50, 000 with one surety in like sum.

The judge adjourned the case until May 10 for further hearing. (NAN)
