Security guard jailed 10 months for stealing planks

A Dei-Dei Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, on Thursday sentenced a 28-year-old security guard, Rabiu Ibrahim, to 10 months imprisonment for stealing fifty pieces of planks.
Ibrahim of Kubwa, Abuja, had pleaded guilty to a three-count charge of conspiracy, criminal trespass and theft.
He had prayed for leniency.
The Judge, Sulyman Ola, gave the convict an option of N40,000 fine, and warned him to desist from crime.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Mr Chinedu Ogada, told the court that the complainant Mr Victor Uba of FO1 Kubwa, Abuja, reported the matter at a police station on Aug. 30.
Ogada said that, on Aug. 27, while it was raining, the convict and one Taju who surname had yet to be known, conspired and criminally trespassed into a construction site.
He told the court that the complainant was the supervisor of the site under construction at Kubwa.
He said that the convict intentionally stole 50 pieces of planks valued at 90,000 from.the site.
He said that convict was later caught and handed over to the police for proper investigation.
The prosecutor said that during police investigation, the planks were recovered from the convict, adding that the offence contravened Sections 79, 348 and 288 of the Penal Code. (NAN)
