President Muhammadu Buhari has removed the nation’s service chiefs following the escalation of Boko Haram attacks on many parts of the country

PRESIDENT Muhammadu Buhari on Monday, July 13, relieved the nation’s military service chiefs of their appointments. He has also sacked Sambo Dasuki, a retired colonel and national security adviser.

Femi Adesina, special adviser to the president on media and publicity, disclosed this while speaking to State House correspondents on Monday. Adesina refused to go into details, but indicated that more facts would released soon in statement to be made available to the press.

Their replacements were also yet to be named at the time of this report.

A number of analysts have blamed the escalating terror attacks by Boko Haram insurgents on the lack of information on the fate of service chiefs inherited by the Buhari administration.

Onyekachi Ubani, a lawyer and human rights activist, said the lack of assurance by the present administration on the faith of the service chiefs was a big mistake. “The president should let them know whether they are going to remain or to go. By keeping them in suspense would definitely affect their morale because they are not sure of their future in this dispensation. But if you tell them that they would not be changed, they would expected to give their full commitment into the war against the Boko Haram sect,” Ubani said this morning ahead of the sack.

Affected by the shuttle are Air Marshall Alex Badeh, chief of Defence Staff, Lieutenant-General Kenneth Tobiah Jacob Minimah, chief of Army Staff, Admiral Usman Jibrin, chief of Naval Staff and Vice Air Marshal Adesola Nunayon Amosu, chief of Air Staff. They were all appointed to office by former President Goodluck Jonathan in January 2014.
