Lt.-Col. Abubakar Tahir, the Chief Imam of 82 Division of the Nigerian Army in Enugu, has advised Muslim faithful to always exhibit exemplary character in all their dealings in life.

Tahir gave the admonition while delivering a sermon during the Eid-el-Kabir prayers held at the division’s Idi prayer ground in Enugu on Tuesday.

The cleric urged them to be of good character always to reflect Islam which they professed, adding that the prophets of Almighty Allah (God) always portrayed forthrightness and righteousness.

“As Islam has taught us, we must be good and patriotic citizens.

“You should ensure you train your children properly and for them to imbibe good moral character as exemplified by Islam and the prophets.

“Muslims must live under the tenets and principle of Islam and observe various teachings in the Holy Qu’ran,’’ he said.

According to him, Muslims, who still go contrary to Islamic ordinances, should know that the day of reckoning is coming when they must give account of their stewardship to Almighty Allah.

Tahir, who is also the Deputy Director of 82 Division Islamic Affairs, also urged the faithful to avoid anything that could cause disaffection in any society or community.

“Keep away from spreading information that do not promote peace and cannot be verifiable as Prophet Mohammed (SAW) made it clear that Allah dislikes and distastes those that tell lies.

“All, whether a Christian or a Muslim, must learn how to keep his or her tongue in check and use it for things that will promote peace, love and understanding in society,’’ he said.

The cleric also cautioned against extravagant life styles that often led to greed, embezzlement, pride and arrogance.

“Do things within your limits since every individual is different and unique in the way Allah created him or her.

“Keep away from extravagant life style in all you do, be it in association, want and even in the food you eat.

“Allah hates wasteful people and will always reward them accordingly in due time,’’ he said. (NAN)
