Be at alert, Anambra Government urges State Fire fighters

THE  Anambra State government has urged fire fighters to be at alert as it has initiated security measures to stem fire incidents in the state, especially during the general elections.

Governor Willie Obiano gave the indication after a brief meeting with Security Service Commanders in the state at the Governor’s Lodge, Amawbia.

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Headquarters, Awka, was recently gutted by fire that destroyed valuable property including smart card readers for the February 16, general elections.

Obiano had also directed fire servicemen to be combat ready to attend any urgent calls in all INEC offices and locations.

The governor noted that the state government was working harmoniously with the Police to ensure protection of lives and election materials.

“We have deployed Policemen to INEC offices to guard election materials.

“Law enforcement agencies are ready for the exercise. Anyone trying to foment trouble will be seriously dealt with.

“Anambra has been peaceful and will remain peaceful in this election,’’ Governor assured.

He urged the people of the state to come out en masse to exercise their civic responsibility, warning those who do not have voters card to flee from polling units to avoid fomenting trouble.
