Mr Lawrence Danat, Chairman Mangu Local Government Council in Plateau on Monday inaugurated a nine-man security committee to regulate activities of commercial motorcycle operators in the area.

Inaugurating the committee at the council secretariat, Danat charged the members to ensure discipline among the commercial motorcycle operators.

“The security of the citizens of Mangu local Government is of paramount importance and should be taken seriously.

“We shall no longer tolerate the situation where innocent citizens or visitors who use the means of transportation are maltreated, injured and/or killed by commercial motorcycle riders.

“They, riders, must be careful and guard against such particularly unnecessary accidents and road blockage.
“As a committee, you must ensure that every motorcycle and rider is registered for proper and easy identification, ” the chairman said.

Danat said that the committee members would serve for an interim period of a renewable six months.

He also tasked the committee members to evolve modalities for electing substantive leaders for the commercial motorcycle riders association at all levels in the area.

He further directed the committee to work in-collaboration with security agencies toward bringing sanity to the use of motorcycles as means of transportation in the area.

On revenue generation, Danat urged the committee to proffer suggestions and recommendations on how the council could expand its income in order to provide necessary infrastructure and social amenities for inhabitants.

Responding on behalf of the committee members, the Chairman, Mr Sunday Dankaka, appreciated the Council’s leadership for finding them worthy to serve their people.

Dankaka said, “we shall ensure those elected are worthy to champion the mandate of implementing the task of ensuring smooth operation of commercial motorcycle riders in the area.

“l wish to assure you that we shall promote better synergy between the commercial motorcycle riders, the people and the government for the desired growth and development of the area, ” Dankaka pledged.

Other members of the committee include: Shadrach Darin, Jethro Jacob, Elisha Hassan, Nanbal Tanko, Khalid Ubaidu, Patrick Jatau, Yushau Umar and Kwarshak Musa Isa, who is to serve as Secretary. (NAN)
