THE Police Command in Enugu State has appealed to hospital authorities and residents of the state to report any suspected case of bullet wound to the command.

The command’s spokesman, SP Mr Ebere Amaraizu, made the appeal in a statement on Monday in Enugu.

Amaraizu said that the appeal became necessary following the dislodgement of a notorious gang, called “Malaysia forest gang boys’’ by the police in Nsukka on Sunday.

He said that operatives of the Police Area Command, Nsukka, achieved the feat in its renewed bid to ensure that the zone was safe and secure.

He said that the law enforcement agents swung into action after receiving a distress call and intelligent information on the movement of the armed bandits.

“Following a distress call, police operatives swung into action swiftly and got to the scene at Nimbo axis of UzoUwani Local Government Area.

“The gang opened fire at the police operatives when it sighted them, leading to a gun battle between the gang and policemen.

“A member of the gang, identified as Mathew Ngana, was critically wounded in the cross-fire, while others escaped into the forest.

“The wounded suspect was taken to a hospital for medical attention but was later confirmed dead by the doctor on duty,” he stated.

Amaraizu said that the command had intensified search for the fleeing members of the gang and appealed to hospital operators for information regarding anyone with suspected bullet wound.

The gang which has been terrorising residents of the area in recent time is believed to be responsible for the killing of one Ejiofor Enechi from the area. (NAN)
