SEMA evacuates 17 victims of rainstorm in Yobe

YOBE State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) said it evacuated 17 rainstorm victims to Damaturu specialists hospital on Saturday.

Dr Mohammed Goje, Executive Secretary SEMA, disclosed this in a statement in Damaturu.

“Midnight of Saturday after a heavy rainfall in Damaturu which resulted to overflooding in communities behind white House, Ali Marami, Yobe SEMA recieved distress call of Building collapse.

“The victims trapped in the collapse building include children and infants. SEMA evacuated 17 victims from four households with the support of volunteers,” Goje said.

He explained that the victims which included six adults, seven children and four infants, were taken to specialist Hospital Damaturu.

“The victims are currently on admission and recieving free treatment at Yobe State Specialist Hospital Damaturu.

Goje thanked the hospital medical team, especially the Accident and Emergency unit for their efforts in responding to the victims. (NAN)
