Sen. Abiru appeals to youth on planned protest

SEN. Adetokunbo Abiru, representing Lagos East Senatorial District, has appealed to Nigerian youths to shelve their planned protest and engage in continuous dialogue, in the interest of the country.
Abiru, in a statement by his media aide, Enitan Olukotun, on Friday, sought the understanding of all Nigerians.
He said that President Bola Tinubu was not unmindful of the peculiar socio-economic challenges confronting the people, which predated his administration.
According to him, the President and all the political leadership of the country are frantically taking steps to address all the macro-economic misalignments, which are the bane of current hardship.
“In addition to the rafts of socio-economic intervention programmes, targeted at the most vulnerable Nigerians, including youths, the government is willing to engage with the people in other areas of concerns,” he said.
Abiru, therefore, appealed to Nigerian youths to toe the path of understanding, and shelve the planned protest.
He said that intelligence from security services suggested that the protest could be hijacked by enemies of the state.
He urged the organisers to engage the government, and present their specific demands, as government had shown commitment to reason with them . (NAN)
