THE Senator representing Lagos West Senatorial District, Sen. Idiat Adebule has distributed working tools and N50,000 startup capital to 1,000 constituents having been trained in various skills.
Adebule, a former Deputy Governor of Lagos State, made this known at the Ailing Business Support and Capacity Enhancement for Micro Food Processing Enterprises programme in Lagos on Monday.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the programme was held in collaboration with the National Institute for Freshwater Fisheries Research, New Bussa, Niger.
NAN reports that the equipment are, barbing machines, sewing machines, 6kg gas cylinders, table gas cookers, hair dryers and hand dryers, to mention a few.
Many youths were trained in various skills such as fashion designing, barbing, hair dressing, catering and make-up.
Adebule said the distribution of these business tools and N50,000 startup capital was to enable beneficiaries to go into the world and contribute to the economic development of the nation.
The senator said that the opportunity given to them with various equipment would assist them in becoming entrepreneurs and add to the economic development of the nation.
According to her, my efforts was to put food on the table of the beneficiaries having undergone training in various skills that would make them self-reliant.
The senator said the first phase of the training started on Nov. 4 while the second phase, they had it up to Nov. 15.
She said: “First, let me thank Almighty God for His enablement. Let me also thank President Bola Tinubu for supporting the senators to give back to their constituents.
“I also would like to thank my own predecessor in office, Sen. Olamilekan Adeola, alias Yayi, for his brotherly support since I got into this office. Let me express my gratitude to him for his support for making this possible.
“We lost the idea of empowering unemployed youths amongst us. We lost the idea of giving them the opportunity to earn a living.
“We also lost the idea of giving them the opportunity to be able to be entrepreneurs and add to the economic development of this nation.
“That was what we had in mind and God Almighty gave us the opportunity to train them and they were well trained.”
Adebule said they had only trained 1,000 while the second phase of the programme would begin by February, saying that it was just another way and opportunity of fulfilling her part with the people of Lagos.
She thanked her constituents for the opportunity they had given her to serve them at the Senate, saying that she was not going to let them down.
In his goodwill message, the Chairman, All Progressives Congress (APC), Lagos State, Mr Cornelius Ojelabi, urged the beneficiaries to utilise the equipment to become employers of labour.
“Let us make the best use of the equipment given to you today. The senator is here to continue to support you provided you are ready to further support her if you can make the best use of the equipment.
“Do not sell those items that are given to you today. They were given to you to become an employer of labour,” he said.
He urged the people of Lagos to get themselves enrolled for the NIN to ensure they benefitted from the Federal Government empowerment programme.
In his remark, a party chieftain, Mr John Odumbaku urged the beneficiaries to make the best use of the equipment, warning them not to sell the tools.
The Team Leader from New Bussa, Mr Toyin Oluwasegun, thanked the senator for giving back to the society in form of the training and the tools, urging the beneficiaries to use it well.
In her appreciation, a beneficiary, Mrs Olaitan Kareem, who was trained in hair dressing, said she had learnt how to make hair through the empowerment programme.
Also, a trained Barber, Mr Agbaje Habeeb, while thanking the senator, said he had been trained on how to barb hair in a modern way.
Agbaje thanked the senator for the empowerment programme and the tools given to them to support their business. (NAN)
