Sen. Mai-Doki awards N45m scholarship to 1,291 students

SEN. Garba Mai-Doki (PDP-Kebbi South), on Saturday, launched a Students and Youth Educational Empowerment Programme for 1,291 beneficiaries in his constituency.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the programme offers

N35,000 as scholarship to students from southern senatorial district studying in various universities across the country.

The beneficiaries were drawn from  Federal University Birnin Kebbi (FUBK), Federal University of Agriculture Zuru (FUAZ), and Kebbi State University of Science and Technology Aliero (KSUSTA).

Others were, Usmanu Danfodiyo University Sokoto (UDUS), Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, University of Jos (Uni Jos), and Bayero University, Kano (BUK).

Launching the programme in Zuru, Prof. Umar Ahmed-Sanda, the Chairman of Screening and Payment Committee, said only 100-level students from the specified universities were eligible and selected through verification of their details and original documents.

”The breakdown of beneficiaries includes 291 from FUAZ, 141 from UDUS, 292 from FUBK, 514 from KSUSTA, 14 from BUK, 11 from Uni Jos, and 28 from ABU, Zaria,” he said.

Ahmed-Sanda urged the beneficiaries to utilise the gesture judiciously and advised parents and guardians too to ensure proper utilisation of the funds.

Earlier, Mrs Chinyere Ezem, Project Supervisor from the National Productivity Centre, Abuja, stressed the need for students to always improve on whatever their hands found doing especially their studies.

She also highlighted the importance of proper funds’ utilisation and focus on their studies.

Two of the beneficiaries, Hauwa Abdulkarim and Sirajo Salisu expressed gratitude to Sen. Mai- Doki and prayed for his success.

They also assured that the money would be used judiciously to achieve the purpose it was meant for. (NAN)
