SEN. Bala Ibn-Na’Allah, Chairman, Senate Committee on Air Force has urged the Federal Government to evolve policies that would make kidnapping and banditry less attractive in the country.
Na’Allah made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Abuja.
“Government must come out with policies that will make kidnapping and banditry less attractive. Because if people have alternative means of survival, more than half of them will not go into crime.
“These are issues that have to do with policies; issues that have to do with us as citizens, making sure that everyone who lives in this country has some level of comfort that he can derive from those charged with the responsibility of governance,” he said.
The lawmaker who represents Kebbi South at the National Assembly while calling on the new service chiefs to consolidate on the gains of their predecessors urged them to up their game in the fight against kidnapping and banditry.
“They should consolidate on what their predecessors had done and then aim at bringing more results so that Nigerians can have a sigh of relief and go about their normal way of doing things in the country,” he said.
Na’Allah also faulted calls by some bodies that the police should be left to handle kidnappings and banditry,
“Everybody knows that the police are lacking in capacity to address the issue of kidnapping and banditry.
“It will be a wrong advice to ask the service chiefs to abandon the issue of kidnapping, banditry to the police.
“I think what we need now under the situation that we have found ourselves is a concerted, cooperative effort by all security agencies to arrest our situation,’’ he said.
