SEN Shehu Sani has said that the family war in the All Progressive Congress, APC, is due to the fact that the party leaders do not believe that they can win the 2023 election based on President Muhammadu Buhari’s achievements in office.

Sani, who is also a social critic, said in a tweet on his official Twitter handle @ShehuSani Saturday February 11, 2023 that this lack of belief in President Buhari’s achievements was the reason for their internal crisis.

He wrote, “President Buhari wants to leave behind a legacy where money doesn’t influence who becomes Nigeria’s next president.

“The ruling party leaders think that his record in office can’t deliver them to victory without the massive use of money. This is the basis of their family war.

The tweet came in the heels of the controversies surrounding the Naira Swap policy of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, and its resultant economic hardship on Nigerians in the last one week.

President Buhari had on several occasions expressed the desire to conduct a free and fair 2023 election as a legacy for which Nigerians will remember him, and has continued to make frantic efforts to ensure that vote buying is largely discouraged.

Realnews recalls that earlier in the month, Prof Anya O. Anya, the pioneer Director General of the Nigerian Economic Summit Group, NESG, during an exclusive interview with Realnews, noted that although Nigerians may accept money from politicians, who are hoping to win by buying votes, they will only vote according to their conscience.

According to the elder statesman, financial inducement may not influence the voting pattern in this year’s presidential and general elections because more people are tired of the system and will want to make a positive statement that will be sufficient to make a difference.
