The Senate on Wednesday confirmed the appointment of Olanipekun Olukoyede, as the Secretary of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.

His confirmation followed the submission of the report of the Committee on Anti-Corruption and Financial Crimes by Senator Chukwuka Utazi.

Thereafter, the Senate dissolved into the Committee of the Whole for the clause by clause consideration of the report,

At the end of the deliberations, Olukoyede was confirmed.

The EFCC Secretary’s confirmation was postponed till today, (Wednesday), after one of the members of the committee, Isa Misau from Bauchi Central, raised an objection over the report presented on Tuesday.

Misau alleged that most members of the committee were not carried along in the screening.

He said, “Nobody invited me to come and deliberate on this report and I was part of the screening.”

The  President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki in his ruling, upheld Misau’s objection.

“What is expected of this committee is for all members to join the chairman for a required meeting on this report before representing it for confirmation or approval by the Senate,” he said. – Punch
