THE Leader of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, on Monday lauded the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration for restoring relative normalcy to the Northeast.

Lawan made the commendation when the Northeast Youths Coalition for President Buhari paid him a courtesy visit in Abuja.

According to him, when President Buhari came in 2015, the first actions he took were the actions that were necessary to rescue and secure the Northeast.

He said the Northeast has been rescued.

“Insurgency, once it starts, does not stop like when rain starts and stops. You will always find, from time to time, some signs that they are still there.

“But the signs have been reduced to suicide bombing of soft targets and not declaring a caliphate with headquarters at Bama or anywhere else. We really owe gratitude to our President.

“I urge those in the administration to continue to give  the President the kind of support he needs to make this administration succeed,” he said.

Lawan also commended the youth coalition for coming together to propagate what the administration has done for the geo-political zone, specifically, and the country, in general.

“We need to remind our zone that this President and his administration have done wonderfully well in so many ways.

“Buhari is a phenomenon, it’s a movement, it’s not a man.

“What I mean here is that Buhari is an attitude to life. What is that attitude? It is an attitude of integrity and commitment,” he said.

Lawan urged the people to give maximum support to the administration beyond 2019.

“It is our duty as citizens, not to allow the President to do it alone.

“No matter how equipped you are, when it comes to leadership and administration, especially of a country that is as complex Nigeria, you need every hand to be on the deck.

“That is what we are trying to do. That is what the coalition is seeking to do,” he said.

He also explained that the Buhari agenda was based on service delivery in a transparent and accountable manner.

“We are not only asking President Buhari to run in 2019, we want Buhari to finish in 2023 and then another Buhari should come,” Lawan said.

Earlier, Leader of the delegation, Mr Abdullahi Auwal said the group would contribute its quota to the yearnings and aspirations of the Buhari government.

Highlight of the visit was the presentation of a letter to the leader of the senate as the group’s grand patron
