Senator Isah Hamma Misau insists that Ibrahim Idris, Nigerian inspector general of police is clueless, takes bribe from subordinates for juicy posting and embezzles N10 billion monthly paid by oil companies

SENATOR Isah Hamma Misau, Senate committee chairman on Navy, is at a loss why the Nigeria Police Force will not respond to the allegations of bribery he made against Ibrahim Idris, inspector general of police instead of alleging that he (Misau) absconded from duty in 2010.

The police failed to address the issues I raised about illegal promotion in the Police Force and its potential to undermine the operational capacity of the Force, Misau said in a press release on Monday, describing the reaction of the police to the “weighty issues” raised by him as “cheap propaganda to obfuscate the real issue”.

“The inspector-general of police and chairman, Police Service Commission, should prove me wrong and not embark on voyage of discovery”, Misau said, insisting that he strictly followed the provisions of the Police Act and Regulations in resigning from the Police Force.

He added that the police knew his whereabouts since he left the force and could have arrested him if he did leave the force without proper resignation.

The senator pointed out that he has been in the Senate for about two and half years without any mention of his deserting until his innocuous warning against practices capable of destroying the police force. “It is beyond curiosity that the police would be looking for someone clearly in plain sight for these past years. Little wonder the proliferation of crime in the country and the police apparent cluelessness, especially, under the current leadership of the IGP”, he said.

According to Senator Misau, who is representing the people of Bauchi Central at the National Assembly, Idris  and Mike Okiro, chairman of the Police Service Commission,  were involved in promotion racketeering.

He alleged last Friday that the IGP collected bribes, ranging from N10 million to N15 million from commissioners of police, State mobile commanders and special protection units, SPU, commanders, for favourable postings.

He also alleged that the IGP makes up to N10 billion monthly from oil companies, banks and private individuals who enjoy special protection from the security agency.

However, Jimoh Moshood, Force public relations officer, had on Sunday, accused Misau of absconding from the Police Force in 2010 upon his redeployment to Niger State Command.

Moshood also said that the resignation letter being displayed by Senator Misau was forged and should be investigated, insisting that the senator did not resign from the Police Force.
