SERVICE Compact with all Nigerians (SERVICOM) has commended the management of Industrial Training Fund (ITF) over the provision of necessary work/training equipment to give satisfactory services to its trainees.

The National Coordinator of SERVICOM, Mrs Nnenna Akajemeli, gave the commendation on Thursday, at a formal presentation of SERVICOM Compliance Evaluation (SCE) reports of selected ITF offices across the country to director-general of the agency.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the overall objective of the SCE is to ensure Citizen Focused Service Delivery in Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).

The specific objective includes identifying gaps in service delivery and making recommendations to ITF to improve customer satisfaction and accountability.

Speaking further, the SERVICOM Boss expressed satisfaction over ITF attention to some key areas required to meet the obligation of the Agency for improved service delivery.

Akajemeli said ITF had put in place monitoring system whereby trainees evaluate trainers, facilities and impact of daily trainings, the initiative she said had led to improvement in the quality of service and had impacted the training system.

She also identified other areas of improvement to include provision of Solar energy, Model Skills Training Centers, special skill programmes such as wig making by women, tailoring & Fashion design, ensuring conducive environment fir the trainees among others.

Akajemeli urged ITF to create more awareness on the Innovative Diploma Programme run by the Fund to increase enrollment and build necessary skills for development.

“ITF should implement more trainings for technical staff  to ensure that they are equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills to effectively carry out their duties.

“There is urgent need to improve  power issues in area offices affected such as Enugu and Uyo Area offices; this will reduce cost of running and maintaining generators and boost administrative efficiency for the benefit of trainees.

“ITF Management should consider extending the annual skilled training programs beyond three months.

“This extension would provide trainees with more time to absorb skills, and fostering a deeper grasp of their chosen field.”

She also urged ITF management to fully automate processes that were related to companies reimbursement and Students’ Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES) program so as to ensure  timely delivery of services.

“In a number of locations visited, there is report of delay in payment of SIWES Coordinators allowance; this hampers effective discharge of their duties and in turn impedes service delivery in Port Harcourt Area, Victoria Island Area offices in particular.”

She urged ITF management to procure additional operational vehicles for staff, adding that it will improve the overall efficiency and effectiveness of staff in carrying out field operations for service improvement purposes.

Responding, Dr Afiz Ogun, Director-General ITF, thanked SERVICOM management for the visit.

Ogun described SERVICOM services as JAMB and WAEC examination body for MDAs to certify that clients, customers receive quality service delivery.

He pledged to work towards ensuring that the identified areas of weaknesses and gaps by SERVICOM would be improved.

Speaking on clearance of SIWES, he said modalities had already been put on ground to ensure that the trainees’ stipends are paid as soon as possible.

The ITF boss also disclosed that the agency would soon come up with an initiative called ‘Skill-Up Artisans (SUPA)’ to upscale Nigerian Artisans in different works of life. (NAN)
