THE South East South South Professionals of Nigeria, SESSPN says that it received with deep regret the unfortunate murder of Ahmed Gulak, politician and former special adviser to former President Goodluck Jonathan. This dastardly act, which reportedly occurred in Owerri, Imo State on Sunday “is not only worrisome but represents a setback in the struggle for a Just, Fair and Peaceful Nigeria”.

“The SESSPN hereby condemns this callous act in the strongest terms permissible and cautions that this is a very dangerous dimension to the festering insecurity in the South East hitherto a very peaceful haven for Social and Economic activities.

“We urge all those responsible for the wanton killing of security officials, innocent citizens, the burning and looting of public properties to sheath their swords and embrace a road map for a drastic, but peaceful and orderly change desired by Nigerians.

“The entire members of the South East South South Professionals of Nigeria hereby condoles with the wife, and family of the late politician as well as the Government and People of Adamawa State for this callous act. May his soul rest in Peace, Amen,” SESSPN said in a statement.

It renewed the call to the National Assembly and all those currently engaged in the fruitless exercise of Constitutional review that what the majority of Nigerians are yearning for is an entirely new Constitution put together by the voice of the majority of Nigerians and endorsed via a referendum.

“The federal government of Nigeria should not delude itself that the present agitations for structural changes and the deteriorating security challenges will fizzle out without a positive response to the yearnings of Nigerians for equity and justice in running the affairs of Nigeria. We believe that the current drift to a state of total anarchy in the country can only be reversed by a drastic change in the unsustainable status quo.

“The SESSPN as an advocacy non-political, non-partisan Group will continue to support a United Nigeria sustained mainly by Equity and Justice,” the statement added.
