Shakeup in NDDC

THE Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, is undergoing a major restructuring with the re-deployment 21 directors. Ibim Semenitari, acting managing director and chief executive officer, NDDC, through a memo said the action was part of ongoing efforts to improve service and project delivery.

The exercise which takes immediate effect saw 21 directors moved to new responsibilities, covering legal services, procurement, project monitoring and supervision, administration, environmental protection and control, education, as well as health and social services. Other departments affected include, youths, sports, culture and women affairs, information technology, special duties, community and rural development, agriculture and fisheries, corporate affairs, project management and servicom unit.

The exercise also affected officers in seven states, namely, Abia, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Edo, Imo, Rivers and Ondo. Twelve officers, however, retained their positions in planning, research, and statistics, human resources, finance and supply, utilities, infrastructural development and waterways, commercial and industrial development, internal audit, security, as well as public-private partnerships.

In a statement issued by Bekee Anyalewechi, special assistant on media to Semenitari, said: “The redeployment is part of her strategy to strengthen NDDC to achieve its mandate of facilitating the development of the Niger Delta region, as well as ensure that the commission helps to meet the Federal Government’s goal of improving the living conditions of the people.”

The NDDC boss reiterated that her objective was to “re-professionalise the workforce to create a new generation of officers with sufficient skills, knowledge and motivation to coordinate our management systems.”
