… calls on any Igbo citizen involved or engaged in the dastardly act to desist
THE International Society for Civil Liberties and Rule of Law, INTERSOCIETY, has alleged that the Nigeria government has been indulging in a maddening priced hiring of Igbos to kill, abduct and disappear fellow Igbos.
INTERSOCIETY made this known in a report made available to on Thursday, July 1, and signed by its principal officer – Emeka Umeagbalasi, Chinwe Umeche, Obianuju Igboeli, and Chidimma Udegbunam.
The civil society organisation based its report on findings from its several investigations conducted recently into the rising case of abductions, killings, disappearances, targeted eliminations and burning or destruction of civilian properties by Nigerian security agencies in the nine Eastern States of Abia, Anambra, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Delta, Ebonyi, Enugu, Imo and Rivers.
The report reads: “It has been found that there is maddening rate of priced to kill, abduct, eliminate and disappear fellow Igbos by Nigerian Government hired and paid Igbo deviants. This has, since January 2021, led to 2,700 arrests/abductions, death of 370 and disappearance of 630. The dastardly act of the Nigerian Government using Igbo deviants also included use of ‘strawmen’ and their planting in social clusters, civil society organizations and other social groupings located within and across the borders of the country. The hardest hit in all these are civil society organizations and self determination activists and organizations.
“These Igbos aiding the Nigerian Government in ‘priced to abduct, eliminate, kill and disappear their fellow Igbos’ include those who still claim to be “fighting for Biafra Independence” and those who claim to be “human rights activists”. Among those in the former are those who fell out or had some disagreements with their mainstream leaders/leaderships and some who are still in their leadership or membership folds but unknown to their leaders, have since become moles or secretly hired Government spies disguising as “Biafra Independence agitators”. The saddest and most horrible part of all these is their connivance with the killer security agents of the Nigerian Government in targeting, tracking, abducting, eliminating, killing and disappearing thousands of innocent and defenseless Igbo citizens since January 2021.
“These have led to four types of state killings in recent months in Eastern Nigeria namely: (1) targeted and instant killings or eliminations, (2) abducted killings or abduction and captivity killings, (3) indiscriminate killings or killings arising from indiscriminate arrests and false labelling, and (4) custodial torture killings or killings arising from deadly use of force on the arrested citizens in custody. Several findings abound. Members of the Indigenous People of Biafra who, to the best of our investigative knowledge, have never used or advocated violence have been secretly profiled by Nigerian Government, aided by Igbo deviants and marked for instant or secret custodial death leading to their indiscriminate tracking and killing since January 2021.
“In our recent investigation into the ungodly hours of the morning of 6th June, 2021, attack and assassination attempts on IPOB Lawyer, Barr Ifeanyichukwu Ejiofor, it was our shocking discovery that information clothed in fakery and used by the operatives of the Force Intelligence Bureau, Abuja, were supplied by some Igbo deviants. This is to the extent that a leaked signal explaining the outcome of the operation was traced to one of them. A formerly trended video, featuring a tall armed man with others brandishing their assault rifles, was also traced to one of them hours after the attack; with intent to impersonate the slain IPOB Lawyer’s personal aide, Late Samuel Okoro (Alias ‘Biggie’) as the one in the video and target of the FIB’s murderous operation.
“Hours after the Ariaria Junction Army massacre of innocent and defenseless traders and passersby at Aba in the evening of 23rd April, 2021, during which no fewer than 30 were killed including over ten that were abducted alive at the scene and shot and killed hours later in captivity; a video showing the killing of the abductees was also traced to one of the deviants. Same was the case regarding the extrajudicial killing of over ten unarmed citizens, abducted hours after the “unknown gunmen” attack on 29th May, 2021, at the State CID, Umuahia. Among over 50 unarmed citizens massively abducted by soldiers, at least ten, handed over to the Abia State Police Command in the evening of same day were gathered together and shot dead and falsely labelled by the Abia State Commissioner of Police, Mrs. Janet Agbede as “unknown gunmen”. A video of their killing also emerged almost immediately and was again traced to one of the deviants. Some of these deviants also had a hand in the Saturday night June 26th 2021 international arrest or abduction of the IPOB Leader in Kenya. This is to the extent that movement itineraries, membership lists, meeting places and other vital information regarding members and leaders of the group particularly those, to the best of our investigative knowledge, have never used or advocated violence, are presently in secret custody of the Nigerian Government no thanks to the referenced deviants. The list of the above instances goes on and on.
“These Government infiltrations leading to huge loss of innocent Igbo lives and properties and disrespect for the sanctity of their lives are also differently, methodically and systematically applied in other social groupings in Eastern Nigeria such as among church leaders, traditional rulers and politicians including elected and appointed public office holders at federal, state and local levels of Government; all leading to compromises, defections by elected public office holders and their deafness and dumbness on matters collectively affecting human and territorial security. This is more so when some critics have labelled the present Government of Nigeria as “the world most corrupt and palm-greasing that serially borrows and serially flitters same on local and international bureaucratic and diplomatic palm-greasing and lobbying/tipping”.
Personal Grievances & Misunderstandings are not comparable to loss Of human lives
“The most heinous crime or abomination and sacrilege against any Igbo citizen is for another Igbo citizen to be privy to his or her abduction, disappearance and elimination or killing under situation of jungle justice and inter tribal and religious hatred, especially that arising from ‘comradeship in struggle’ for the propagation and defense of collective ethnic identity, existence and development. Monies and other enticements collected or accepted from the killer security agents by such Igbo citizen or citizens for such dastardly act are also mortally and immortally accursed, generationally punishable and permanently haunting and hurting. That is to say that there are limits to personal grievances and misunderstandings and they must be distanced from extremism of participating in the massacre of fellow Igbos.
Relationship between intersociety & Igbo social groupings
“While Intersociety recognizes and appreciates the right of every Igbo social grouping to exist and operate within the ambits of the internationally compatible local laws and the international laws, we have no iota of time for irrelevancies and frivolities such as name callings, back-biting, back-stabbing, intra and inter group bickering or wrangling. We totally distance ourselves from knowingly engaging in life threatening conducts or others constituting collective and individual security threats. Our relationship with Igbo and non Igbo social groupings such as socio-cultural, intelligentsia, self-determination or indigenous, research, investigative, victims, business, entertainment, religious, civil society and professional communities as well as security and intelligence agencies and public office holders, is strictly to observe and respect human rights and rule of law including justice and improved livelihoods for victims of heinous crimes and sanctioning of their perpetrators; provision of good governance by public officers and rendering of general and priceless services to humanity by state actor and non state actor entities. Our liaising with the groupings named above is also based on their areas of freely donated expertise for purpose of making our society a better place either collectively as a country with foundation of equality, rule of law and human rights or having same achieved while living peacefully apart as separate sovereigns.
“We hereby call on any Igbo citizen involved or engaged in the dastardly, abominable and sacrilegious act of conspiring with the Nigerian Government to identify, locate, point, track, eliminate, abduct, disappear, kill, wound, torture, burn or destroy or loot property or properties of his or her fellow Igbo citizen to desist from same. To lend a helping hand in the annihilation of the people of one’s own generation, whether in part or in whole and hinging same on “personal grievances” or “provocations” or “misunderstandings” or “betrayals” in the struggle; or outright long throat and greed, etc is chillingly and shockingly despicable and condemnable and amounts to levying of war against the entire Igbos including incoming and unborn generations of the Ethnic Nationality. This is more so when in conflict management, the moment two or three persons start interacting, dispute or misunderstanding or even conflict becomes inevitable and how it is managed and not its eruption, becomes essentially important.”
