Sierra Leone lauds Nigeria’s feat on space science, technology

THE Sierra Leone government has commended Nigeria’s achievements in developing its space science and technology sector, saying its country has a lot to learn from Nigeria in the area of its space programme and policy.

Mr Sarjoh Aziz-Hamara, Deputy Minister of Technical and Higher Education, Sierra Leone said this on Friday when he paid a working visit to Dr Halilu Shaba, the Director-General, National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA) in Abuja.

Aziz-Hamara said that the visit was to understudy Nigeria’s space agency.

He described space science and technology as key in the development of science, technology and innovation in any country.

“Your achievements are highly commendable and worthy of emulation.

“The Republic of Sierra Leone has a lot to learn from Nigeria in the area of its space programme and policy.

“No stone will be left unturned to facilitate collaboration between Sierra Leone and Nigeria in this novel area.

“This is because this sector is critical to the social, political and economic development of any nation,” he said.

On the Nigeria Science, Technology and Innovation Television (NSTItv), Aziz-Hamara, described it as a strategic and commendable initiative, adding that Africa needed such a medium to promote technology and innovation in the continent.

Responding, Shaba said that the agency was not relenting in its efforts towards the successful implementation of its space roadmap for the overall benefit of Nigerians.

He assured the visiting minister of the agency’s willingness to collaborate and mutually share knowledge.

Aziz-Hamara, was later conducted on a facility tour of the ground station for NigeriaSat 2 and NigeriaSat X, Grid 3 project, advanced laboratories and some other critical project laboratories in the agency. (NAN)
