PRESIDENT Julius Maada Bio of Sierra Leonean says preventive measures will be re-imposed to curb the third wave of COVID-19 that is ravaging the country.
More people have tested positive for COVID-19 in the last few weeks and 72 per cent of beds in treatment and care centres have been occupied, the president said.
“We have closely looked at the trends.
“We believe we must take urgent and necessary steps to stem this third wave of the COVID-19 pandemic in Sierra Leone and thus save lives and protect livelihoods,’’ he said.
The government is going to impose a one-month curfew, starting from July 5 while restaurants and bars are encouraged to use takeaway services and shall be closed at 9.00 p.m.
Attendance at social events shall be limited to no more than 50 people and COVID-19 vaccination is strongly urged prior to travels, the president added.
As of Thursday Sierra Leone had registered 5,575 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 100 deaths. (Xinhua/NAN)
