THE Kogi State House of Assembly on Tuesday, February 9, confirmed the appointment of Simeon Achuba as the deputy governor of the state. With the confirmation, Achuba replaces James Faleke, who ran with late Abubakar Audu, former governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, who died before the conclusion of November 21, 2015, governorship election in the state.
Faleke, who refused to be sworn into the position on January 27, during Governor Bello’s inauguration, had withdrawn from the supplementary election conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, insisting that he should replace late Audu as the governor-elect.
Achuba, a former deputy speaker of the State House of Assembly, comes from Ibaji Local Government Area in the Kogi East Senatorial Zone, where late Audu hailed from.
Others who had shown interest in the position were Justina Abanida, David Atte, Sam Aro and Alex Akoje, who was believed to have been favoured by the national secretariat of the APC as well as James Ocholi, minister of state for labour and productivity.
