A Nigerian artiste, Lawal Temitope is popularly known as Triller, on Wednesday urged other artistes to pass meaning messages to the public through their songs.

Triller told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos that it was important for artistes to follow the trend to stay relevant.

He said that most importantly, they must always endeavour to pass meaningful messages through their works of art.

Triller said that the likes of Ebenezer Obey and King Sunny Ade are referred to as evergreen not because they followed the trend but because their songs carry meaningful messages.

“We all know that in contemporary music, artistes now produce songs that will only make the listeners move their bodies with little or no message being passed across compared to the way it was years back.

“I’m not judging them in any way as they need to move with the trend, which I also need to do.

“In as much as I will be composing music that will be danceable, I will not forget that I ventured into the industry, primarily for the purpose of passing a message.

“I will always ensure I sing about some of the contemporary problems being faced in the world today, and most especially in Nigeria.

“Issues such as rape and domestic violence in a danceable manner that will still get the attention of fans should be talked about with meaningful lyrics,’’ he said. (NAN)
