ALTHOUGH business activities in the South East are gradual returning to normal on Mondays in some states, it may take a while for normal economic and social activities as well as resumption of school activities to place after several months of sit at home order imposed on the zone by the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB.

Realnews reports that in Onitsha and Nnewi in Anambra state, economic and social activities were totally absent as most people stayed indoors despite the assurances by the Anambra State commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, C. Don Adinuba, last weekend that full economic activities in the state should resume as IPOB had long rescinded its decision to ground the South-East zone.

According to the Nation, there was sporadic movement of people in Onitsha generally, while students who went to school in Akwa were sent home by the authorities.

“Residents of Awka, the capital city have started their normal activities, but schools are yet to resume as students were sent home by the authorities.

“In Onitsha, there were few movements in the commercial city, but all the markets, shops and banks were locked.

“The situation in Nnewi was worse as the roads were still deserted with shops and other activities still on hold.

“Activities are gradually returning in Awka with markets and few banks operating, but markets and banks in Nnewi and Onitsha are still under lock,” reports the Nation.

A source in Abakaliki told Realnews that the sit at home is no longer as serious as before.

“People are already coming out. Most people are out today and there is nothing special that is happening.

Alhough the sit-at-home order had been suspended by the pro-Biafra agitators weeks ago, most people have continued to observance the order largely due to fear of being attacked by miscreants masquerading as the enforcers of the IPOB order.

According to The Nation, one of the workers at Chief Jerome Udoji Secretariat and Anambra State Government House on Monday said that many people who live in Enugwu -Ukwu refused to come because they were warned by the non-State actors.

“Those people issued a warning note to the driver who brings them to work that he has been flouting their orders and therefore he should be ready to pay with his life any moment from now, if he fails to desist

“As a result, the workers from that area refused to come out again. Only three persons in the entire building that houses over 400 workers came to the office today. IPOB has killed the Igbo economy,” the report quoted a source as saying.

IPOB had declared every Monday a day to boycott work to press for their demand on federal government to release their leader, Nnamdi Kanu, who is standing trial for treasonable offense.

The group called off the exercise after two Mondays, but every Monday in the South East, the people have continued to observe the order, crippling economic and social activities.
