Slovenia declares ‘state of epidemic’ as infections surge

Slovenia has declared a 30-day state of the epidemic from Monday, paving the way for regional and local authorities to swiftly introduce measures against the surging number of coronavirus infections.
The government made the decision in a Sunday night meeting, the STA news agency reported.
The same measure was declared on March 12 and it remained in place until May 30.
The authorities have not ordered additional measures on top of the restrictions in place since Friday, when the movement was restricted within the region’s most affected by the epidemic and schools switched to remote classes.
Slovenia, with 2.08 million inhabitants reported 726 and 897 new infections on Saturday and Sunday and now has 317 new cases per 100,000 inhabitants over 14 days. (dpa/NAN)
