ALWAL Ibrahim, the National Vice President, Association of Small and Medium Enterprises (SME), North Central, has blamed the slow pace of implementing economic diversification on lack of synergy between government and the private sector.

Ibrahim made this remark at a monthly policy and strategic dialogue of the association on Wednesday in Abuja.

He said the major things lacking in the full implementation of the economic diversification by government was lack of public private panrtnership synergy in implementing some necessary programmes and policies.

The SME chief said that it was through the engagement and implementation of the right programmes and policies that the government would realise the importance of economic diversification.

Ibrahim called for a dialogue between the government and the private sector for a greater engagement, adding that though, the government had had engagements in the past, but there was the need for a greater engagement.

He said that the concept of national cake sharing had been inbuilt in the public, this he said, had informed the belief of most Nigerians while nobody was talking of cake baking.

Ibrahim said that the concept of engagement with the government via dialogue would help the country to develop the concept of cake baking, noting that Nigerians would know that she had to bake the cake before she could share it.

He said engagement with the government would help achieve the  essence of the economic diversification, job creation and poverty alleviation.

“We have observed that the government has put in place all necessary policies and programmes to achieve the economic diversification goal, poverty alleviation and job creation but the impacts have not been felt.

In other words, Ibrahim said the ongoing economic diversification of the federal government had not achieved the necessary impact it ought to achieve.

According to him, even the oil and gas sectors are not developed, as we are not getting enough from the sector not to talk of agriculture, solid minerals, energy and power services.

He called on both the public and private sectors of the economy to work with the nation’s policy formulation and implementation, so that all the government policies would have meaning and make the desired impacts. (NAN)
