THE National Executive Committee of the Southern Kaduna Peoples Union (SOKAPU), Youth Wing, has impeached Isaac Sirjay, its National Youths Coordinator and other cabinet members, over gross act of misconduct.

This was announced by Mr Simon Mijimre, the SAKAPU Coordinator, Kauru branch, while addressing newsmen at the union’s secretariat in Kaduna.

Mijimre declared that the NEC having vested with the power of the constitution on page 24, Section 27 sub-section X, had on Sept. 20 impeached the National Youth Wing Coordinator over gross indiscipline, which he said was detrimental to the progress of the union.

“Following the impeachment of Comrade Isaac John, his Assistant, Mr Katuka Jerry was automatically elevated to the seat in an acting capacity but he later chose to disclaim and distant himself from the decision of the NEC.

“One week after issuing the President with the communiqué without hearing from the CEC, some concerned NEC members of the youth wing sought audience with the National President, Mr Dio Maisamari, to ascertain whether any action was taken in respect to the communiqué.

“The National President (Mr Dio) told them in his opening speech that he had not yet gone through the communiqué ever since he received it but that he handed it over to the legal team of the union to study its content,” Mijimre explained.

He said the decision of the mother body was later made public on Sept. 3, in a press statement which suspended the activities of the youth wing with immediate effect.

He added “no official of the youth wing should parade his office for either personal or official engagement with anyone or group, pending the resolution of issues at stake.

“A seven-man committee was constituted and was given 2 weeks to submit report to the mother body instructing them to keep away from making further comments on social media and conventional mass media on the matter until it comes out with its resolution on the matter.

“The statement maintained that disciplinary action awaits any person who violates these directives”.

Mijimre lamented that in less than 24 hours after the official press statement by the national secretariat, the Public Relations Officer of the Youth Wing, Ernest Thyek Maidawa, issued a counter statement rubbishing the efforts of the parent body before the public, calling the suspension a misplaced priority.

“Subsequently, there were series of press statements; appearances in the public in the name of SOKAPU by the former coordinator and above all held a meeting with some of his cohorts at the Secretariat where according to him they formed a political committee,” he said.

He explained that the meeting between grievance committee and the CEC of the youths with few NEC members in attendance on Spet. 13, had proved beyond reasonable doubts that the former national youths coordinator goofed and could not counter any of those allegations leveled against him.

However, he noted that Isaac succeeded in apportioning blames on the immediate past national president of the national body of the union, Mr Jonathan Asake, who encouraged him to pick just a few among his executives and work with them.

The youth wing NEC also accused the current National President of the Union, Mr Dio Maisamari, for refusing to take a stand on the matter as the CEC made their recommendation as they were reliably informed.

“That the committee has made their recommendations and forwarded it to the National Executive Council and have still not taken a stand on the recommendation after a meeting was scheduled between the CEC of the Mother Body and the Youth Wing to investigate the root cause of the impeachment.

“Even though, the President, Mr Dio Maisamari, stated that during one of its meetings said the impeachment could not hold because it lacks constitutional merit and that the youth wing should work towards harmonising the house instead.

“The NEC of the Youth Wing maintained that they have resolved to dissolve the entire CEC of the Youth wing and constitute a caretaker committee (CTC) following a motion since the Central Executive Council seems to be reluctant to take disciplinary action against those that violated the instruction that suspended the activities of the Youth wing,” he explained.

Mijimre announced the interim Exco to include Luka Duniya as acting National Youth Wing Coordinator; Mathew Jacob, Ag. National Youth Wing Deputy Coordinator; Augustine Baye, Ag. National Youth Wing Secretary; Nuhu Chibi, Ag. Assistant National Youth Wing Secretary General.

Others included Bissalla Emmanuel Anja, Ag. National Youth Wing Treasurer; Samaila Sabo, Ag. National Youth Wing Financial Secretary; and Bitrus Elisha as the Ag. National Youth Wing Public Relations Officer.

Mijimre said that the interim acting exco members shall work for a period of three months as stipulated in the constitution and after which an election shall be conducted to usher in a new crop of leaders.

He, however, cautioned any person parading himself as an official of  SOKAPU apart from those appointed in acting capacity would have consequences to bear.

The acting National Coordinator of the Youth Wing, Mr Luka Duniya, promised to work in accordance with the tenets of the SOKAPU constitution toward uplifting Southern Kaduna region. (NAN)
