The Sokoto State House of Assembly on Wednesday adopted a motion calling on the state government to repair electricity facilities destroyed by windstorm in Shagari Local Government Area.

The motion, sponsored by Alhaji Maidawa Kajiji (APC- Shagari) and seconded by Alhaji Mode Sanyinna (PDP- Tambuwal East), also requested the government to connect Zamau community to the National Grid.

He said areas affected by the windstorm were Kaura and Wanke towns in the local government area.

Kajiji said that the motion became necessary in view of the importance of electricity to human life, particularly in boosting the socio-economic activities of the people.

“The people of Kaura and Wanke towns of Shagari LGA are in need of the rehabilitation of electricity facilities destroyed by windstorms, and there is also the need to connect Zamau town with the national grid.

“If these projects are executed, the gesture will go a long way in uplifting the living standard of the inhabitants of these areas,” he said.

Contributing on the motion, Alhaji Abubakar Shehu (APC- Yabo), commended the lawmaker for his foresight and urged the state government to give priority to the project, to enhance the living conditions of the people.

The lawmakers unanimously adopted the motion, and the Deputy Speaker, Alhaji Abubakar Magaji, who presided over the sitting, directed the Clerk of the assembly to forward the resolution to the state government. (NAN)
