THE Sokoto State government on Friday inaugurated the COVID-19 vaccine phase III and rotavirus immunisation for new born babies in the state.
Alhaji Abubakar Chika, the Special Advisor to Gov. Aminu Tambuwal on Primary Health Care Development Agency (SSPHCDA), while inaugurating the exercise said the government had stocked the required vaccines for the immunisation.
“We are fully equipped to ensure all children are vaccinated toward addressing rotavirus in order to ensure proper health care delivery.
“However, on the COVID-19 vaccine, it has become a source of concern considering the parcentage number of people who have taken the vaccine across the state.
“Therefore, I wish to call on our people to continue to support government’s dedication and engagement toward ensuring the best and healthier generation,” he said.
In his remarks Alhaji Abdullahi Romo, the Executive Secretary SSPHCDA, appreciated the government’s prompt response on all issues relating to health care delivery.
“This type of vaccine is in line with the teachings of our forefathers and the law that prescribes our responsibility to take care of the family.
“Vaccination is of great success for a long period of time toward addressing the health care system in our society.
“As such, the government has done the necessary aspect of providing the vaccine and follow-up to ensure the people are fully aware of the impact,” he said.
Also speaking Dr Aliyu Abbas, the Program Manager, State Emergency on Routine Immunisation Coordination Centre (SERICC), expressed satisfaction with the rotavirus vaccine.
He explained that the vaccine is to be administered to children in three dose, which is from six weeks to 12 weeks and then 16 weeks for the third dose.
On the COVID-19 vaccine phase III, Dr Abdulkadir Ahmed, the Director, Public Health SSPHCDA, said the vaccine was the fifth strategy to prevent COVID-19 in the state.
“The aim is to ensure maximum vaccination across the state. It is worrisome that in Sokoto, less than 30 per cent of the population received COVID-19 vaccine,” he said. (NAN)
