DR. Nonye Soludo, wife of the Anambra state governor, has commended the World Health Organisation, WHO, for its support in ensuring a polio-free state since 2004.

Nonye, founder of the Healthy Living Initiative, said this, after a health walk to mark World Polio Day with the theme -‘Let’s End Polio’, in Akwa on Thursday.

The event was organised by the state Ministry of Health and support by WHO.

She said: “As at today, there is no recorded case of poliomyelitis in Anambra and it has been like that for over ten years because the WHO has been supporting the state.

“We also have no case record because Anambra women prioritise their children’s health.

“Vaccination is the key to complete eradication of polio.

We still have a duty as mothers and caregivers to vaccinate our children and wards against polio virus to sustain efforts toward a polio-free state, nation and world.”

Also speaking, Dr Afam Obidike, state’s Commissioner for Health, assured that the state government would continue to sustain the measures used in curbing the spread of polio virus to the state.(NAN)
